ID tags and three cats—Felesto’s vision—
All Felesto collars come with an optional ID tag.
Why am I so committed to collars with ID tags?
It stems from my personal experiences with three real cats.
I would like to share their stories with you.
"Please, make sure your beloved pet wears an ID tag."
So that if they ever get lost, they can find their way home.
I hope my message resonates with you, even just a little.
1. Don't let your guard down, even with strictly indoor cats
The story of Cookie
Cookie was a stray who was so friendly that we decided to adopt her.
The day we took her to the vet to be officially brought into our home, she panicked—perhaps because of the unfamiliar car and noises. As my mother was moving from the car to the vet's entrance, Cookie thrashed inside her carrier, the door popped open, and she ran off.
At that time, Cookie was not wearing a collar, and of course, had no ID tag.
To this day, I have never been reunited with Cookie.
Even for strictly indoor cats, the chance for an escape is hidden in the most unexpected places.
Just the other day, I saw a notice at the vet's office:
"Escaped between the parking lot and the entrance. Orange tabby, no collar."

2. Is an ID tag alone enough for peace of mind?
The story of Sasha
I found Sasha in a deserted mountain area; she was a very free-spirited and friendly cat.
Sasha wore a blue collar with a small, clear resin ID tag.
She was very sociable and didn't seem afraid of man-made objects.
One day, she suddenly stopped coming home. When I went around asking, I learned that she had likely been hit by a car.
Even if a cat that roams outdoors wears an ID tag, there is still a possibility they won't return home.
Areas with heavy traffic, in particular, can be very dangerous.
3. She came home!!! A 3-day disappearance, 20km away
The story of Michelle
Michelle was an outdoor-roaming cat.
I was always worried because she was friendly and didn't fear cars, but one day, she didn't come home for three days.
Just when I thought all was lost, I received a phone call.
It turned out a staff member at a roadside station about 20km away had found her.
It seems she had climbed into a delivery truck and happened to get off at that roadside station.
The ID tag Michelle was wearing at the time was the same clear resin tag as Sasha's.
Because she was so friendly, it was easy for someone to approach and secure her, which is what led to her rescue.
I was so grateful she had an ID tag.
I was so relieved she made it home safely.
That is truly how I felt from the bottom of my heart.
An ID tag for the unexpected
As with Sasha, wearing an ID tag does not guarantee a cat will return home.
However, I believe that it is infinitely more likely that a cat will be returned to its owner if they are wearing a collar and have an ID tag, rather than having to rely on "fur color" as the only distinguishing feature.
If you choose to put a collar on your cat, I strongly urge you to choose one with an ID tag.
I believe there are many cats out there who, like those I have experienced, get lost and cannot find their way back home.
To help reduce that number even slightly, Felesto makes collars equipped with ID tags.
